Ovarian cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women and has the lowest survival rate of all female cancers. The symptoms can be very vague and often appear at a late stage. For this reason it is important to “Know your Body, Know the Symptoms”.
Keep an eye on what is normal for your body and take note of symptoms that persist. Women with ovarian cancer are most likely to have one or more of the below symptoms on a frequent basis:
  • Bloated feeling
  • Persistent swollen abdomen
  • Trapped wind
  • Pain or dragging sensation in your lower abdomen or side
  • Vague indigestion or nausea
  • Poor appetite and feeling full quickly
  • Changes in your bowel or bladder habits. For example, constipation or needing to pass water urgently
  • Abnormal vaginal discharge or bleeding (rare)
Ovarian cancer generally affects women over the age of 40; however it can affect women much younger.  If you’re experiencing one or more of the above symptoms on most days within a three week period, you should visit your GP to discuss your concerns.
