Rachel Canning from New Jersey, America gained international attention after deciding to sue her parents for refusing to financially support her.

However, court records have now revealed that Rachel has now voluntarily dropped the charges against her parents.

The 18-year-old claimed that since she was not legally emancipated from her parents, she was entitled to financial care for her private school tuition, living expenses and access to her college fund.

Her parents, Sean and Elizabeth Canning said they would continue to pay for school expenses if she returned home to complete high school.

Rachel has said that she was emotionally abused and abandoned by her parents. Her mother and father argue on the other hand that their daughter had disciplinary problems at both home and school.

The Canning’s case has raised many questions surrounding legal obligations of non-divorced parents when their child decides to leave home.
