Ever since her arrival into the world on May 2, we have been eagerly awaiting the first official photo of Princess Charlotte – and it is finally here.

The Duke and Duchess appear to have bucked Royal tradition yet again with the first public image of their little one, with doting mum Kate Middleton herself capturing the beautiful image.

The couple also opted for a more intimate setting for Prince George’s first portrait, which was captured by the Duchess’ father, Michael Middleton.

While we managed to get a sneak peek of Princess Charlotte on the day of her birth, outside the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital, this precious set of portraits have given us our first proper look at Kate and William’s adorable daughter.

The official portrait was just posted on the Kensington Palace Twitter account and here it is:

Kensington Palace revealed this morning that the portraits would be published tonight, taking to the official Twitter account to share the exciting news.

“We’ll be posting a very special photo of Prince George & his little sister Princess Charlotte late tonight. Can’t wait to share it with you!” read the message.

The unveiling of Princess Charlotte’s first official portrait comes just a day after the details of her christening were announced. The gorgeous little one is set to be christened in a private ceremony on July 5, at St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham.

UPDATE: Kensington Palace has realised a few extra 'behind the scenes' shots and our hearts are melting!
