Growing up is hard to do and it gets even harder when you hit the teenage years. We’ve all been through the breaks ups, make ups, fight with friends, arguments with parents, and feeling a sense of insecurity that sometimes we wish we could just hide away for a week or five.

However, it does get better but this is only something that happens with time, time that can seem like a million years away when you are a teenager.

And while all the experiences that we go through growing up shape who we are today, there are a few things we could really do without stressing about.

1. You are beautiful

Tell your teenager that they are beautiful every day – we all love to hear compliments when we are feeling low.

2. Bad results aren’t the end of the world

While we don’t want our teens to think it is ok not to try our hardest, we also don’t want them to think that it is the end of the world if they don’t get what they want.

3. It’s not all about the guy/girl

Boyfriends and girlfriends will come and go and life should never just be about finding that one person to love.

4. Exercise is important

And the sooner they start the better they will feel.

5. Friends comes and go - true ones last forever

Friends will come and go but it is nothing to do with you - life simply moves on.

6. Do what you want not what you think others want you to do

You only get one life make sure they live it the way they want to live it.

7. Your heart won’t stay broken forever

At the time it can feel like a broken heart will never be mended but, with time, it will.

8. Stay firm in your beliefs

Make sure your teen doesn’t let anyone belittle their beliefs – make sure htey hold onto them firmly.

9. Everyone is not doing it

And they'll figure this out in a few years time.

10. Mum knows best

Yes. Yes she does!
