5 pieces of advice every mum will pass on to her little girl

There are so many things we teach our children throughout their lives. We teach them how to walk, how to tie their shoelaces, how to brush their teeth and how to cycle a bike.

We are by their side for all the biggest milestones like their first day at school, first date and their first day of college.

As a mum you are the first friend your baby makes and one who will be there for them throughout every happy moment and dark day.

Luckily, they’ll always be able to turn to you in their time of need and as we all know, mums tend to give pretty good advice.

We decided to conjure up a list of the advice every mum will pass on to her little girl throughout her life, ranging from her earliest days to her teenage years.

1: Never Give Up

There’s no doubt your little girl can often feel defeated when things don’t work out the first time, like when she struggles in ballet class or fails an exam she thought she would ace. There will be many moments in your darling girl’s life where she will just want to give up and throw in the towel, but it is your responsibility as her mum to always encourage her. You need to remind her to never give up, regardless of the hurdles she may face.

2: Stay True To You

A nugget of wisdom that even mums need to remind themselves of every now and then. It is so hard for young girls not to fall into the world of trends. During the pre-teen years they’ll want to dress the same as their friends. You’ll notice all of them rocking the same hairstyle or listening to the same music, but you need to teach your daughter about the value of individuality.

Remind her that she doesn’t have to follow trends to be accepted by her peers. Being yourself is the best person to be because there is only one of you.

3: Family Time Is Everything

They may sulk and huff when you tell them you’re all going to visit granny on the weekend, but these are the moments they’ll look back on and cherish when they have their own families in the future.

After a hectic week at school, all the kids want to do is curl up in front of the TV or play Xbox, but teaching them about the importance of spending quality time with their relatives is something they’ll forever be grateful for, except maybe when you’re taking them away from their precious laptop for a few hours.

4: Always Take Photos

When you look around your home, the one thing that will always bring a smile to your face is the framed photo of a happy occasion or silly family moment. The expensive coffee table or flat screen TV will never make you feel as content as a photograph does.

They fill each home with memories and love so remind your daughter to capture as many memories as possible and remind her to print them out.

Photos from her debs, school trips and her first day of college may make her cringe when she is a grown woman but they’ll also take her back down memory lane.

5: Walk Away From Negative People

It is good to be kind, loving and generous. They are traits every person should have, but it is important to remind your daughter that unfortunately, there are people out there who will take advantage of her good nature.

Help her develop a good judge of character and urge her to walk away from those who don’t value her. It is important to show her that cutting negative people out of her life is something we all have to do, and something that will only make her life better and healthier.
