We’re vain creatures, especially when it comes to our faces, and we’ll try just about anything to attain that ‘eternally youthful’ look.

Part of keeping your skin looking fresh and healthy lies in protecting it against the harsh pollutants of the world, and we have some top tips to help you out.

Drink LOADS of water

You’re probably fed up of hearing this one being wheeled out, but it really is that important for that many things! It’s recommended that we drink two litres of water on a daily basis, with H2O playing a vital role in hydrating our skin as well as regenerating its cells and improving elasticity.

Eat a diet rich in antioxidants

Antioxidants do exactly what the title suggests: they cleanse your body of harmful toxins you pick up and consume. It follows then, that eating foods containing high levels of antioxidants – berries, leafy greens, orange veg, nuts – helps to cleanse our skin and keep it clear.

Wear sunscreen

At this stage, there really is no excuse for using a face cream that doesn’t contain SPF. Given how UV rays are involved in cell mutation that causes skin damage, SPF is essential - even when the sun isn’t shining.

Use a vitamin E-rich face cream

Vitamin E has been proven to protect the skin against harsh pollutants and UV radiation; it also has wonderful healing and moisturising properties, which is exactly what you need to keep your face in tip-top condition.

Remember to exfoliate

Cleansing is great to get the surface dirt off of your face, but sometimes a more intensive clean is necessary for a fresh face. In light of this, it’s a good idea to exfoliate every few weeks – not too often, however; especially if you have sensitive skin.
