Following the tragically sudden death of The Cranberries frontwoman Dolores O’Riordan in London this week, her mother, Eileen has thanked people for their huge outpouring of support over the last few days.

Eileen and her family told the Limerick Leader that the “outpouring of tributes, prayers and kind sentiments from across the world, and particularly from the people of Dolores’ home county and city,” has been “a great source of comfort” to them.

Her mother thanked all those who "remembered Dolores this week," in whatever way they could.

“We want to thank all the people of Limerick who have remembered Dolores this week. The people who queued to sign the book of condolence - some of them standing in the rain - it has meant a huge amount to us and has been a great source of comfort,” she said.

Following the announcement of her passing, tributes have been flooding in with a book of condolences opening in Limerick City, the singer’s hometown.

Those who knew O’Riordan during her time in secondary school in Limerick paid tribute to the “delightful, unsophisticated” student who embodied the “alternative girl” and inspired a generation of women and musicians, both in the school and across the world.

The singer, from Friarstown, Kilmallock, Co Limerick, received countless tributes from around the world following her death; the music industry mourns the loss of an icon and friends and family are still in shock following her passing.

The Cranberries guitarist Noel Hogan and co-songwriter said the group are “all still in shock and finding it really difficult to come to terms with her sudden death.

Well-known figures from the music industry are expected to travel to Ballybricken to pay their respects at the musician’s funeral, along with hundreds and thousands of people from Limerick and around the country as she will be buried in her hometown, alongside her father, according to reports.

There is set to be an inquest into her death today.
