The homeless crisis has continued to worsen in recent months with nearly 10,000 people declared homeless as of late. People are living in hotels, sleeping on friend’s sofas and even in cars.

This afternoon, it was reported that a homeless woman gave birth to stillborn twins in emergency accommodation in Dublin.

It is believed the woman went into labour prematurely and her babies were pronounced dead at the Rotunda hospital shortly afterwards.

They were two months premature.

The harrowing loss has been felt around the country. Fr Peter McVerry has expressed his condolences to the mum and there’s no doubt the entire country agrees with what he stated.

He told Independent.ie: “I will say that it's traumatic enough being homeless and in emergency accommodation anyway, without the added trauma of losing two children on top of that.

"It's just absolutely tragic," he stated.

It is understood the woman has three other children and has been living in emergency accommodation since 2017.

Gardaí are treating the deaths as a personal tragedy.

Our thoughts are with the woman and her family at this devastating time.
