American actress Sarah Michelle Gellar once described letting kids enter the acting industry at a young age as “child abuse”, and now another star has shared similar feelings.

Eastenders star Natalie Cassidy, who is mum to four-year-old daughter Eliza, has said she is keen for her daughter not to follow in her footsteps.

Natalie, who began her career on the British soap at the tender age of 10, admits that the pressures of the industry on her daughter would be a major concern for her.

“I wouldn’t want her to do it because I don’t know what it’s like to not be recognised. It’s not a bad thing, because I’m so used to it, but I’d like her to retain her anonymity. I think it’s important. I’d like her to have that for her life, really. I don’t want her to have what I’ve had,” she said candidly.

Natalie found herself at the centre of the media spotlight after leaving Eastenders in 2007, and going from a size 16 to a size 8 following a lifestyle overhaul. She later admitted that she came under major pressure to maintain her dramatic weight loss.

It is understandable then, having come under such scrutiny throughout her career, that Natalie is wary of Eliza pursuing an acting career. However, with Eliza already showing an interest in drama, Natalie has been nonetheless encouraging.

Indeed, Eliza is already attending a drama club, with Natalie admitting that she has considered setting her own school up.

Commenting on her current situation, Natalie happily added: “I am the most content I’ve ever been. It’s brilliant. I’m in a lovely place right now.”
