He is known for Livin’ La Vida Loca, but for his two sons - Matteo and Valentino - life at home with Ricky Martin is pretty grounded – so much so his eight-year-old boys didn’t even know he was famous.
In fact, they only found out pretty recently that their “papa”, who is engaged to Jwan Yosef, entertains for a living – and how they found out is pretty cute!
Talking to People magazine recently, the dad-of-two revealed that while he would bring his sons on tour, they would stay behind the scenes so they didn’t really know who he was singing too.
"They're always with me and always travelling and on the road with me, but I always kept them backstage,” he explained.
“Their perception of my job was to see me from the side singing, but they didn't know to what."
However, one day, when he thought they were old enough, Ricky let Matteo and Valentino go “to the front of the house” - and it was here that they realised he is Ricky Martin!
"One day, when I thought that they were big enough, I said: 'Go to the front of the house,' and they see the lights and the whole spectacle,” the 44-year-old told the publication.
“When the show was over, they came to me and said, 'Papi, you're Ricky Martin'. I said 'I'm not Ricky Martin, I'm your father'.
“They said, 'No, no, no, you're Ricky Martin,' and so it changed."
But despite knowing, the kids are fairly critical of his songs, even telling him what works and what doesn’t.
"You don't know the level of criticism I get from my kids,” he explained.
“They go, ‘Dad, that movement I don't like. Dad, that song, you gotta change it,' and they bring good points."
