I had heard many wonderful thing about the Aveeno brand and how good it was for sensitive skin, so when I saw the Mums Say Trial on MummyPages I jumped at the chance to try in on my 22 month old son.
Little D has many allergies and is quite sensitive to many moisturisers. He never really had that baby-soft skin you see on other children, which upset me. From just a few days old his face, arms and legs were like sandpaper.
Through managing his diet, and with the help of Hydrocortisyl skin ointment and emulsifying ointment I can keep most of his eczema at bay.
Unfortunately Little D had a reaction to one of the ingredients in Aveeno Dermexa and I had to stop using it after just one application. I have to say, though, I was impressed with how it went on, it seemed to soak in to his skin quicker than other mosturisers we have tried.

Thank you for my Aveeno Dermexa samples. I have two little girls aged one and two Both have such bad eczema that they have been hospitalized more than once via A&E. It's a constant battle! This has resulted in two woeful sleepers as they tend to scratch all night and bleed etc. They have been seeing a Paediatric Dermatologist every 5 weeks since there were 5 weeks old and have terribly time consuming regime to follow daily including daily baths in Milton (to kill anything living on the skin) and lashings of emollient wash. Constant creaming down during the day /night with an array of cortisone creams and Haldens base emollient cream as the top layer. I was dying to try new products to see if I could step away from the gruelling routine we have at present with heavy duty cortisones etc which I HATE using. I had heard of Aveeno before the trial but had only used the products on myself as skin are range when I was pregnant.
On using the Dermexa wash in the bath, I found it more heavy duty than my usual one so needed less which from a cost point of view is great considering these Milton baths have to be daily. Neither of the girls had a bad reaction to the wash and they didn't appear to scratch themselves as much after the bath which normally they would.
On using the Dermexa cream, the two year old reacted to it and her skin became very red and inflamed but the one year olds skin is beautifully soft after it. The two year old has worse eczema and has always had skin like sandpaper, dry and bumpy whereas the one year old's skin has always been that bit softer. I would definitely continue with the Aveeno for the younger girl if the cost works out similar to what I use currently. However, having said that, the one I use currently I can get prescribed so if its a month where I've already spent the €144 on the Drugs Payment Scheme it would be cheaper to use what I'm currently prescribed as an emollient.
I have used the product on myself when it arrived first as I always the girls products on myself first. I LOVE IT! Gone are the dry Winter shins and red bumpy upper arms. I'm going to continue buying for myself!
