While attention focuses predominantly on a new mother's appearance following the arrival of new baby, it looks like one half of a world-famous couple hopes to remedy that by offering an insight into the exercise routine he maintains after becoming a dad for the first time!

Steering attention from his wife's physical progress following the birth of their baby girl in December last year, Ryan Reynolds, who tied the knot to Blake Lively in 2012, has opened up about his own fitness and wellbeing regime - and the very special role his little girl plays in that mission.

Explaining that he uses baby James as motivation to stay in shape, the 39-year-old star tells American publication US Weekly: "I take her on hikes all the time. It's great!"

The Green Lantern actor, who has delighted millions of fans by sharing an insight into the Lively / Reynolds household in recent months, credits James' arrival for keeping him in tip-top condition.

Commenting on the impact James has had on his personal regime, the Candandian-native continued: "One of the reasons I go hiking is for exercise, so having an 18lb baby on you is just a better workout!"

The actor, who recently lost his father, cherishes the time he spends with his little girl on these daddy/ daughter hikes, explaining: "She's outside all the time."

It's refreshing to finally hear a father's perspective on his fitness routine following the arrival of a little one, isn't it?!
