The way you wake up in the morning can really set your day off on a good or a bad foot.

We've all been there: woken up late and had to rush around trying to get everyone out the door in time only to arrive at our desks or the school gate feeling like we've already run a marathon.

That is NOT the best way to start your day.

Instead, take note of these five points and you'll definitely notice a remarkable change in your self.

1. Let natural light wake you up

If possible, allow natural light to slowly wake you up in the morning. Not only will it mean you’ll be awake to turn off your alarm, you will feel more rested and ready for the day. To do this leave your curtains partially open or your blinds slightly up – try it and see how you feel.

2. Leave the phone down

Don’t scroll through Facebook first thing in the morning. The last thing you need to see when you are struggling to get up is a former work colleague’s beachside snaps... Leave it down – you can always have a look at it when you are on the bus on the way to work or when you’re having a late morning coffee.

3. Work out for five minutes

Stretch, do some star jumps or even run on the spot; anything to get your heart rate pumping basically. Not only will this help wake you up, the raised endorphins will mean you are starting the day on a positive and happy note.

4. Eat a good healthy breakfast

You have been fasting for a good eight hours so make sure you have a good healthy brekkie in your belly before you leave the house. Helping to prevent mid-morning slumps, depending on what you eat, you can get some much needed vitamins and minerals to help keep your immune system in tip top condition.

5. Give your kids a big cuddle

Nothing beats a squishy, squeezy hug from your little ones. Not only will you feel happy and ready to tackle the day, your little ones will also benefit from the cuddle.
