It has turned out to be the most controversial sporting decision since Thierry Henry’s handball, and Irish fans are devastated for boxer Michael Conlan after his loss in Rio this week.

Conlan can, however, take comfort in the fact that he has inspired people all over the country – especially five-year-old Finn McManus.

Feeling for Conlan after his loss, adorable young Finn decided to offer up his own school sports gold medal in commiseration!

It was Finn’s aunt, Marie Kirk, who took to Facebook to spread word of the sweet gesture and post a screenshot of the little boy’s heart-warming message to Conlan.

The letter reads:

Hi Michael,

My name is Finn McManus and I am five years old. I saw your fight in Rio and you should have won because you are the best boxer in the world.

I want you to have my school medal because you are a winner. I hope you like it.

From Finn

Needless to say, people all over the country have melted over the little boy’s words; and Conlan, himself, is very impressed.

Sharing a snapshot of the letter to Twitter, Conlan wrote: “Very warming message from this young lad. If anyone knows who he is, could they please tell him I have a gift for him.”

As heartbreaking as yesterday’s loss was, we bet Finn’s message has cheered Michael up no end.
