If this story doesn’t warm your heart, we don’t know what will.

17-year-old Kittakone Sirisombath from DeSoto, Texas, was smitten with Destiny La’nae Irish, also 17, and wanted to take her on a date.

Unfortunately, the teen had very little money to treat his date when they headed out for dinner. So, the young gentleman paid for Destiny’s meal and pretended he wasn’t hungry himself.

“There have been times where I didn’t eat for days, I was fine with missing a meal,” Kittakone told Metro.co.uk.

“She said she was hungry so I made sure she ate, I knew I would be fine. She didn’t suspect it at all”, he explained.

Happily, he impressed Destiny and they are now officially a couple and have been together for eight months – yay!

Recently, he revealed the truth to Destiny in a throwback tweet.

Alongside a photo of Destiny enjoying a burger, he wrote: “ Our first date … told you I wasn’t hungry but really ain’t  (sic) have enough money to pay for both of us so I sat and watched you eat".

And his grateful girlfriend sent a sweet reply, assuring her beau that money or lack of wasn’t important to her.

“It doesn't matter. It ain't about the money, we could've gone to the store and got some snacks. I would've been straight”, she wrote.

The young man added that he was happy to make the sacrifice to see his girlfriend happy.

“That’s just me being who I am,” he said. “I make sure she smiles every day”.

Since getting together, the teens enjoy low-key casual dates and take it in turn to treat each other.

He said: “We might grab a bite to eat from time to time. We’re not rich but we manage. Sometimes I pay, sometimes she does".

Their story went viral with over 24,000 retweets and 87,000 likes, and spawned tearful GIF reactions,

Although Kittakone says their internet fame was “completely unexpected” it hasn’t changed their relationship at all.

We're not crying, you are....
