Every year RTÉ is inundated with letters and audition tapes from eager children hoping to step into the spotlight on the beloved Late Late Toy Show.

One young man who was ahead of the pack with his application this year was nine-year-old Cavan native Charlie Brunton, whose sweet letter has won over show host Ryan Tubridy.

While most children apply hoping to review a toy or share their talent through a performance, all little Charlie wanted to do this year was help!

His letter read: “On this year’s Late Late Toy Show, can I help set up the stage? I understand if I can’t. I am a big boy…well big muscles anyway. I wanted to get my letter in early so I might get a chance.”

Since hitting the internet today, Charlie’s letter has won over the nation’s hearts – particularly his sign-off, which read: “I better go before mam loses her voice calling me for dinner.”

How could Ryan and co. resist such a request? Well, we’re delighted to report that the answer here is they simply couldn't, and Charlie’s wish has been granted!

The die-hard Toy Show fan is set to help out backstage this year, and his mum Breege told Independent.ie that he couldn’t be more excited.

“He still doesn’t believe he will be on it. He has become a local celebrity. Everyone in our rural parish knows. He went around to each classroom in school to tell all the students and spoke at assembly about it,” said the proud mum.

Congratulations to Charlie, and good luck; we just know he will knock it out of the park on Friday.
