We often report on random acts of kindness which are made by passing strangers in an effort to buoy someone else's spirits.

And a well-known celebrity who was recently on the end of such a gesture was much-loved comedian and dad-of-five, Jason Manford.

Taking to Facebook this afternoon, the former 8 out of 10 Cats panelist shared a story which appeared to truly touch him, writing: "You know when a stranger does something that's so old-school it makes you tear up a little bit?"

Elaborating on the incident, 34-year-old Jason explained: "Earlier on, there was a man in his 80s about to climb up the steps to the plane in the heat. He had hand luggage so I offered to carry it up. We had a little chat and he fussed over my baby daughter then we went off to our seats."

Recalling the elderly man's kind words towards his little girl. Jason continued: "At the end of the three hour flight he came over and said 'She was so well behaved, what a good baby'. I said thanks (even though in truth it's a total lottery on whether she would've kicked off or not!)"

Not content to simply compliment the infant, the elderly gentleman wanted to mark the moment with a generous token.

Explaining that his fellow passenger offered Jason's daughter some money, the stand-up comic said: "Then he handed me £20 and said 'That's for her money box for being so good'. I tried to protest but it clearly made his day. I got his stuff down from the overhead, he smiled and off he went."

Clearly touched by the event, Jason finished his post by writing: "Heading home now to put it in her money box with a restored sense of belief in people. I say 'money box' I mean her ISA, but still it was a lovely old-school thought from a lovely gentleman."

Jason's heartfelt post has amassed almost 20,000 likes in an hour and we can see why!

What a lovely story!
