It is a condition that affects so many people around the world, young and old, and the dangers of living with asthma have been reiterated today following the tragic death of a British reality star.

Reports last week broke the sad news that former star of The Apprentice, Stuart Baggs, was found dead at the age of 27. Now today, following the news that he passed away as a result of an asthma attack, Asthma UK has issued a warning to people living with the illness.

Sending their condolences to Stuart’s distraught family, Dr Samantha Walker of Asthma UK issued a statement, saying: “Our thoughts are with Stuart Baggs’ family and friends at such a heartbreaking time.”

“Many people don’t realise how serious asthma is, yet every ten seconds someone…is having a potentially life-threatening asthma attack and, sadly, three people die every day. I can’t stress enough how important it is that people with asthma recognise the early warning signs of an asthma attack and know what to do when their symptoms are getting worse,” she added.

Dr Walker went on to explain how all those suffering with the condition should have a “written asthma action plan which helps them deal with worsening symptoms and what to do in an emergency”.

Her statement comes just hours after authorities confirmed that Stuart had died of natural causes.

“It is clear that this is a tragic and premature loss of such a hardworking and visionary young man. We extend our thoughts to the family at this sad time,” an inspector from the Isle of Man Constabulary said.

This is so sad. Our thoughts remain with Stuart’s family and friends at this difficult time.
