If you’ve already fallen victim to the bout of colds and flu circulating, then it’s time to prepare for the next seasonal assault: dry skin.

With party season on the horizon, it’s time to ensure that we’re keeping our skin silky-smooth for those sequin dresses!

Here are our top tips:

Stock up on your healthy fats

Beauty starts from within, and healthy fats are major weapons in the fight against dry skin. Natural oils such as omega-3s provide moisture and help to keep the skin supple.

Sources: oily fish, avocados, nuts and seeds.

Amp up the moisturising

If you’re not great for moisturising, then it’s time to get into the swing of a strict regime. Choose the right moisturiser for your skin, applying it right after your bath or shower.

Keep the Vaseline to hand

There will be certain problem areas that even a heavy-duty moisturiser can’t tackle. For this reason, it’s great to keep some moisture-heavy Vaseline to hand, for areas such as the lips and the feet.

Out with the hot shower, in with the lukewarm bath

As amazing as a hot shower may feel on the skin, particularly after coming in from the cold, it’s depleting the natural oils in your skin which is dehydrating it. From now on, opt for a lukewarm bath or shower to lock in that moisture.

Boost your vitamin C intake

Vitamin C is great for the skin, in particular for boosting production of the collagen that keeps it supple and gives it its elasticity. Much like your healthy fats, this is a good time to up your intake.

Sources: Citrus fruits, leafy greens.

Less stress, more chill

A previous study has linked stress with a loss of moisture in the body, so now is the time to focus on staying extra calm – for the benefit of your entire body. Keep stress at bay with your choice of activity or pastime, whether it’s meditation, yoga or simply time out with a magazine.
