They say a picture paints a thousand words, and a series of eerie images released by an Australian photographer this week proves this all-too well.

In a world where the screen reigns supreme, Donna Stevens set out to capture how our children react to their first love – the television - and the results are a little disturbing.

As part of her Idiot Box series, Donna set some children up to watch 35 hours of television per week – the same length of time a French person is legally allowed to work.

Donna admits that she wanted to capture “the darker side of our love for technology” in the series, and it’s safe to say that she succeeded.

“This series (shot while children watched TV) was an exploration into the co-dependent yet contradictory relationship we all share with technology and the media,” she said.

We think these images speak for themselves. From those glassy-eyed stars to the almost hypnotic effect mirrored in these little ones’ faces, the photos certainly provide food for thought.
