A family from Rathfarnham, South Dublin are trying to raise €150,000 for a potentially life-changing operation for their daughter Ella.

Three-year-old Ella Doyle has cerebral palsy and can only walk with the help of an aid.

Her father Simon spoke the Irish Mirror saying:

“We have been accepted for the operation by a hospital in America who have given predictions for what Ella will achieve and it is that she will walk independently in all environments.

“It seems so simple for most of us but for her and for the whole family it is life-changing.”

Speaking about Ella’s development as a child and the moment they heard the news of her condition, mum Nicola had this to say:

“I had a normal pregnancy at the time and what we consider a normal delivery.

“There were no health concerns about her and when the doctors checked her they were happy with everything.

“Even at her six-month developmental checks there were no concerns raised – she was meeting her milestones at that stage.

After noticing Ella was not holding her head up as well as other children, the parents grew concerned and decided to get expert advice.

“We contacted the Coombe Hospital where Ella was born and they saw her a couple of weeks later in the physiotherapy department.”

Two weeks later the paediatrician told the pair that little Ella had cerebral palsy.

“We had no idea – when the words were said to us we were in complete and utter shock.

“At that point we didn’t even realise there is such a big spectrum with cerebral palsy that you immediately think the worst.

Ella now depends fully on a mobility aid but thankfully has no major troubles with communicating with her family.

However, as she gets older, Ella will become less able for the mobility device and more dependent on a wheelchair.

The family have currently raised €13,000 so far to put towards the surgery but are now trying to raise awareness of their cause.
