Each year nearly a quarter of a million women globally are diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Supporting Ovarian Cancer Knowledge (SOCK) – the brainchild of the late Jane Keating – is part funding a Research Co-Ordinator post in the Cancer Clinical Trials Unit in Waterford Regional Hospital. This will facilitate research into ovarian cancer and assist in the roll out of medical trials to ovarian cancer patients. The charity is also reviewing other projects underway in Ireland.
As SOCK is not sponsored by a government body it is totally reliant on fundraising activities and sponsorship to fund these initiatives. As well as the Women’s World Event, the Team Horse Show Jumping Challenge and the Give it SOCKs Cycle, past fundraising events have included table quizzes, race nights and comedy nights.
