Many of us suffer from hayfever and this time year can be particularly unpleasant. However what many sufferers don’t think of is the effect sudden hayfever attacks can have on our ability to concentrate while driving.

Research carried out by Opticrom Allergy Eye Drops, has found that two thirds (66%) of drivers who suffer from hayfever have been distracted by blurred vision and watery eyes whilst behind the wheel, while other sufferers have also experienced periods of sneezing, loss of concentration and even accidents whilst driving.

Dr Jean Emberlin, leading pollen expert has emphasised that “hayfever can cause watery, irritated eye symptoms which can cause blurred vision and sneezing thus making your eyes shut involuntary for about one second which means you will be travelling blind and lose concentration on the road during this time.”

Dr Emberlin suggests “wearing wrap round sun glasses which can help keep pollen out of the eyes and eye drops, such as Opticrom Allergy Eye Drops which can reduce the reaction."

Opticrom Allergy Eye Drops is an over the counter pharmacy product and is available in pharmacies nationwide.
