Shortly after the car crash that killed rugby star Jerry Collins and his wife Alana Madill, Collins’ former team mate said that his friend had died trying to save his baby girl, Ayla.

Now, investigators have released heartbreaking new details which claim that it is a ‘miracle’ Ayla is alive, and it’s all down to her devoted father.

The family were travelling through the south of France in their car when the crash occurred, and a new report states investigators’ belief that Collins threw himself across Ayla’s seat moments before impact, to protect his daughter.

While medics recently said that it is likely Ayla will suffer ‘ongoing disabilities’ following surgery, her family this week said that the little one is doing very well.

Aunt Nora Madill told Wales Online: “She’s a big baby and a good eater…She’s a really good sleeper at night and she’s a happy baby. She continues to be a little fighter. She truly is a miracle to us.”

Ayla, who was released from hospital earlier this month, is now being raised by Alana’s parents, Darrell and Ruth, in Canada.
