Newborn infants will need feeding often in the early weeks and over time they will settle into a better pattern and sleep for longer periods at night. Having a bedtime routine helps settle a baby, a bath can help and having a calm environment. Also give your baby a chance to settle to sleep on their own, if you are rocking your baby to sleep or allowing them to sleep in your arms this can form a bad habit.
Make sure they are fed, dry, and not too hot or too cold. Allow them to have a comforter if needed. If they wake during the night do not turn on bright lights, and try not to soothe them by talking.
