She has just kicked off a turn on ITV’s I’m A Celeb…, and Carol Vorderman has admitted that it has taken more than a little courage to step up to the challenge.
The former Countdown star has opened up for the very first time about her battle with depression, admitting that as recently as this time last year, she was in a very low place.
In an interview with The Mirror, the 55-year-old revealed that her problems began when she started going through the menopause.

“The menopause is a bit challenging. It was, last year, particularly. I had six months when I was really low. I’m not a depressed person, but in that space of time I was genuinely depressed,” she explained.
Carol, who is a mum-of-two, admitted: “It got to Christmas, and I thought, ‘God, what on Earth is wrong? I can’t bear this.’”
After pinpointing the difficult moments to her time-of-the-month, Carol realised that she was going through ‘the change’ and she needed to take action.
After visiting a specialist, the presenter started on a new treatment – and it has completely turned things around for her.
“It’s called Estrogel; one for oestrogen, and one for testosterone. From the moment I started taking them, I’ve never felt low again,” she happily revealed.
Fair play to Carol for speaking out; no doubt her story will help many other women battling the same issues.
