We can only imagine how devastating it must be, then, to discover that your cycle has been accidentally ruined.
Unfortunately, this has turned out to be the case for two women who attended a fertility clinic in the Czech Republic.
A rep for the Reprofit clinic has confirmed that in two cases, embryos were implanted in the wrong women.
According to a statement, the staff members handling the embryos failed to carry out basic checks before implantation. The error was only discovered afterwards, during routine quality checks.
“It was a human error, not a system failure. The people who manipulated the embryos are suspended,” the rep said.
An investigation is now being carried out by the State Institute for Drug Control, while the affected women are set to receive damage payments once the probe has been completed.
