It is the news we've all been waiting for: the wonderful Downton Abbey is officially getting the movie treatment, and we couldn't be more delighted.

According to The Sun filming is set to begin in September, “Film bosses have requested the services of crew members and accountants to work on the picture. A budget has been set and now it’s a case of getting everything in place to start shooting.”

There’s been talk of Downton Abbey heading to the big screen for quite some time, and we’re just so excited that it’s finally in the works.

"It would take something big to stop the project from happening now,” explained the source that spoke to The Sun.

Now, the real question on all our minds is will the entire famous cast appear in the film? Because that is CRUCIAL.

We are mainly interested in finding out whether or not Maggie Smith, who plays the ever-so-sarcastic Dowager Countess, will make an appearance - as she has previously mentioned her lack of enthusiasm for a Downton feature film.

Downton Abbey ran for six glorious seasons, with its series finale airing back in 2016 - which saw an array of happy endings including (spoiler alert) Edith's wedding, Anna and Bates welcoming their first child, and Mary expecting a second.

We are overjoyed by this excellent news, and cannot wait to hear more about the Downton Abbey film.
