We grow them, we nourish them, we give life to them – and one woman decided that she wanted to go a step further with her newborn, by delivering him!

Having had only a glimpse of her first child directly after her was born, via C-section, Australian mum Jane Prichard decided that she wanted to take a more hands-on approach for the birth of her second child, Tex.

In what is referred to as a maternal-assisted Caesarean, Jane was able to do just that, and pulled little Tex out of her surgical opening and straight onto her chest when he was born this week.

Jane recalled the incredible moment - which was overseen and supervised by Dr Shiri Dutt – in an interview with local media.

“I grabbed hold of Tex under the arms and I remember Dr Dutt saying, ‘Slow down’, so I pulled him out. There was no curtain – my husband was sitting right beside my head and they put him on my chest. It was a very surreal experience,” she said.

Describing the moment as “beautiful and moving”, Jane added: “Maybe all Caesareans should be like that.”

What an incredible story to tell her son in the future.
