When you become a mum for the first time, you develop a whole new appreciation of the fantastic work of doctors and medical staff, and this is something that TV presenter Karen Koster is honouring with her new role.
The Xposé presenter, who is mum to eight-month-old son Finn, has been unveiled as an official ambassador for CMRF Crumlin; the fundraising body for Our Lady's Children's Hospital and The National Research Centre (NRC).
Karen joins the likes of Johnny Sexton, Ronan O'Gara and Rachel Wyse in her new role, and she will be concentrating her efforts on raising much-needed funds for the hospital's Outpatients' Department.
Around 2,300 children per week avail of the department's services, and all money raised going forward will go towards a number of refurbishment projects, such as the installation of new disability toilets and baby-changing facilities, the development of a new children's play area, and the widening of corridors to better facilitate wheelchair use.
Speaking after the news was revealed, an excited Karen said: "It is such a privilege to become an ambassador for CMRF Crumlin. As a new mum myself, knowing my son Finn is happy and healthy is so important, so my heart goes out to any parents whose children are unwell. Having met the staff and patients at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin it is clear that the standard of care is fantastic."
