This week, we shared the tragic news of the death of Arthur Cave, the 15-year-old son of musician Nick Cave, who passed away following a cliff fall in Brighton.

While it is a given that such a tragic story should be handled with the utmost sensitivity, The Times has been forced to remove a controversial article after receiving major backlash from readers and fellow journalists.

The article, which was branded “pointlessly cruel” by one commentator, referred to The Bad Seeds frontman’s interest in violent movies while writing about his son’s death.

The piece, entitled ‘Let your children feel fear, Cave urged before son’s death’, appeared in the print version of yesterday’s newspaper. After being branded “disgraceful” however, the online version has been taken down from the website.

Commenting on the decision, a spokeswoman for The Times said: “We published a story about Nick Cave and his son in the paper today, which we later decided was inappropriate. We have now removed it from our digital platforms.”

Cave and his devastated family paid tribute to their beloved son earlier this week, describing Arthur as a “beautiful, happy, loving boy”.

Our thoughts are with the Cave family at this time.
