Garlic is a wonderfully delicious addition to most savoury meals, but we're here to tell you that it has so many benefits.

We consider garlic to be an unofficial super food, from its ability to cure a cold to the fact that it can reduce high blood pressure - we think everyone should add  dash of this food to their diet.

Check out the amazing things garlic can do for you, and try not to be convinced by the magic:

It has potent medicinal properties

Garlic is a member of the onion family, grown for its cooking properties and health effects. It is high in a sulfur compound called Allicin, which is believed to bring most of the health benefits.

It can reduce high blood pressure

Human studies have found that garlic supplementation can have a significant impact on reducing blood pressure in people with high blood pressure.

It can soothe psoriasis

Since garlic has proven anti-inflammatory properties, it can be useful in relieving uncomfortable psoriasis outbreaks. Try rubbing a little garlic oil on the affected area for smooth, rash-free skin.

It can reduce the risk of heart disease

Garlic can lower Total and LDL cholesterol. For people with high cholesterol, garlic supplementation can effectively reduce total and LDL cholesterol by about 10 percent.

It contains antioxidants that may prevent dementia

Oxidative damage from free radicals can contribute to the symptoms of the aging process, but garlic contains antioxidants that help support the body’s protective mechanisms against oxidative damage - thus preventing some signs of Alzheimers disease and dementia.

It may improve bone health

Recent studies on rodents have shown that garlic can minimise bone loss by increasing oestrogen in women. One study in menopausal women found that a daily dose of dry garlic extract significantly decreased a marker of oestrogen deficiency. These findings suggest that this garlic may have beneficial effects on bone health in women.
