A young family who lost both parents in one week have had over €200K raised, by the public to help them stay in their home.

Many people were moved by the plight of the Bennet family, after a photo of both parents in hospital went viral.

Mike and Julie Bennet were photographed holding hands across their beds, just days before their deaths.

Mike, 57, lost his fight with a brain tumour on February 6, according to The Mirror.

Tragically Julie, 50, also died from cancer just five days later, leaving Luke, 21, Hannah, 18, and Oliver, 13, orphans.

A fundraiser was set up by a family friend to enable the children stay in the family home and continue their studies.

The aim was to raise £50K, but donations flooded in and four times the amount was raised in just a week.

Heather Heaton Gallagher, a spokesperson for the children, said: "Julie has kept the children in a normal routine whilst dealing with Mike’s illness over the past few years."

“When Julie became ill, she made it her purpose to create as many memories as a family for the children to hold onto.”

Although nothing can replace their parents, we hope this will help the family to recover from the bereavement.
