As we get older, it’s important to keep an eye on our blood pressure, as it’s one of the first indicators that something is up with our bodies.

A peak in blood pressure can signify health risks and heart problems, which is why we need to ensure we’re going for regular readings.

This has just become even easier as, for one week, the Irish Pharmacy Union (IPU) is offering free blood pressure checks nationwide.

750 pharmacies across the country have signed up to carry out the free checks, which form part of the IPU’s Operation Transformation ‘Live Longer, Live Better’ campaign.

The free checks are available from now until Thursday, February 2, at pharmacies bearing the Operation Transformation poster.

With the campaign now in its third year, IPU President Daragh Connolly has encouraged adults to take advantage of the offer.

“Blood pressure is an important indicator, and simple monitoring can play a key role in identifying serious healthcare issues,” he explained.

“I encourage everyone to visit their nearest participating pharmacy over the next week, to talk to their pharmacist and have their blood pressure checked.”
