Labour can be one of the most traumatic experiences of a woman’s life, so we can’t imagine who would be mad enough to participate in the latest reality TV show craze.

US network TLC has created a new programme called Labor Games, which is effectively a game show set in the delivery room while a woman is giving birth.

Labor Games, which is due to air on May 9, will see couples answering trivia questions and competing for prizes while the mum-to-be is in the throes of labour. Challenges include a baby food taste-test, while parents will be quizzed on things like the suggested duration of time-outs.

Speculation was rife that Labor Games was a spoof, however casting notices were issued as far back as January, while producers have reportedly been working with staff at a California hospital to find couples who were willing to sign up to appear in the show.

Prizes for the brave couple include a year’s supply of nappies, cleaning services and money towards their children’s future educations.

A trailer for the show has been released, and show host Lisa Arch has been opening up on her experience during filming, admitting that she has witnessed some women breathing through their contractions and giving an answer to a quiz question just a few moments later.

This is insane, but it’s certainly not the most unusual baby-related story we have had to report on recently.

Check out the trailer below, and prepare to be shocked.
