Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe have never had anything but good things to say about one another, so we’re not surprised by the actress’ latest comments about her first marriage.
The 41-year-old – who shares 18-year-old Ava and 13-year-old Deacon with Ryan – admitted that she ‘would never change anything’ about their union.
Reese made the comments during an interview on ITV’s Lorraine, during the promotional trail for her latest movie, Home Again. In the movie, Reese plays a mum-of-two who strikes up a romance with a much younger man.
“What do you do when you get to 40 and you made a decision when you were 25 to get married and have kids?” she mused.
“I got married when I was 23 and had two kids by 27…sometimes it’s good to know yourself.
“I would never change anything!”
Reese met Ryan at the tender age of 21, with the pair getting married after two years. They announced their separation in 2006, after seven years of marriage, and divorced the following year.
Reese went on to marry agent Jim Toth, with whom she has son Tennessee, who just turned five.
Ryan, meanwhile, has been in a series of high-profile relationships with stars including actress Abbie Cornish, and model Alexis Knapp with whom he has a daughter, Kailani.
Reese and Ryan have always maintained an amicable relationship, often being spotted at Deacon’s sports games with their significant others.
Indeed, Ryan previously gushed about his success in co-parenting with Reese.
“If you put the proper work in when they’re young and you’re consistent about that, then you have less to worry about when they get to be teenagers,” he said.
“That is what I’m proud of for both Reese and me – the work we have done as co-parents. We have made two great people who aren’t spoiled and have varied interests that aren’t just tied to Hollywood.”
It seems like these two are setting a great example.
