Mums, have you ever received a ‘push present’? If so, or if not – where do you stand on the subject?
This is a question that tennis ace and new mother Serena Williams has posed to her legion of followers this week.
Serena, who welcomed daughter Alexis Jr seven weeks ago, took to Instagram to get the conversation started – and, boy, did her fans have plenty to say!
Before we go any further, we should probably explain the concept of the push present for those unfamiliar with it. Basically, a push present is a gift the new mama receives from her other half, as a kind of ‘reward’ for bringing their little one into the world.
Posting a photo of herself and her baby girl to Instagram, 36-year-old Serena wrote: “Ladies, is a ‘push present’ a thing? If so, what did you get, if anything?”
It’s clear that mums are split over idea; while some women LOVE getting a fancy gift upon the birth of their baby, others think it’s unnecessary.
Proponents of the push present happily took to the comment section to share their spoils, which included everything from cars to rings; diamond bracelets to ‘very pretty’ handbags.
“It’s definitely a thing,” wrote one mum. “The second time around, Hubs got me a personal trainer (because I asked)! I had a C-section in July 2017, and I’m headed to Belize for my 30th birthday in one week.”
“Congratulations! It’s a new thing – my daughter received an Apple Watch with a pink band, because she had a girl,” wrote another.
There was a common belief among many of Serena’s other followers, however: your baby is the only ‘push present’ you need!
“No, it’s not a thing, but I did receive three big and beautiful presents (my three kids)! Congratulations on your baby – they are blessings,” one commented.
“Yes, there is such a thing as a push present – you’re holding it!” added another.
Well, mums, where do you stand in the conversation? Let us (and Serena) know!
