A police officer in Texas has been placed on leave after footage emerged which showed him manhandling a teenage girl at pool party over the weekend.

Having thrown the 14-year-old girl on the ground, the officer then proceeded to kneel on her back while pointing his weapon at teens who protested the youth's treatment.

Distraught, the young girl, who was clad only in a swimsuit, cried in protest and insisted: "He hit me, he hit me for no reason. Call my mom."

The officers, who had been called to the party in McKinney after hearing reports that guests refused to leave, brandished their weapons at horrified teenagers who were ordered, and at times, forced to drop to the ground.

Ignoring protests, officers at the scene demanded that the unarmed teenagers lie face down and appeared unconcerned that their conduct was being captured on film by aghast onlookers.

Commenting on the subsequent outcry, the police chief of McKinney, Greg Conley, addressed the media, saying: "Anytime you confront a large group of people, it’s a very dynamic situation and tensions can rise very quickly."

Acknowledging the controversial conduct, he went on to say: "Our initial reaction was to place the officer on administrative leave so that we could conduct a complete and thorough investigation of the incident."

The shocking event, which is believed to have stemmed from a mother/ daughter dispute at the party, has stunned millions of YouTube users who decided to view the footage since its upload on Saturday morning.
