The son of Jane Braidwood, who was murdered in her Dún Laoghaire home on Tuesday evening, has appeared in court this morning and charged with her murder.

Fionn Braidwood, who lived with his mother in their Georgian home in Clarinda Park East, reportedly stabbed the mum-of-three before being arrested at the scene of the crime.

A middle-aged neighbour also sustained injuries during the attack when he attempted to intervene after hearing the victim's daughter raise the alarm.

Jane, a 65-year-old widow who worked as a mental health professional. died in St. Vincent's Hospital following the fatal assault.
