If your child wears glasses you will know how difficult it can be to keep them in good condition. Specsavers have teamed up with Ireland and Leinster rugby superstar Sean O’Brien to launch their new SuperTough lenses for kids. The SuperTough lenses are ideal for withstanding the everyday rough and tumble that kids encounter, as they are made with the same special material used in the canopies of fighter jets and combat helicopters.

To mark the launch of SuperTough lenses, Specsavers are searching across Ireland for unbreakable friendships, asking children to tell them why they have an unbreakable friendship. The best story will win a fantastic day out for them and their friends. Children under 12 years of age can win a day out to Dublin Zoo, including a meet-and-greet with a keeper plus a special tour. In the older category, under 16’s can win a chance to test out their super-toughness at The Gravity Extreme Adventure Forest Park in Wexford, including the new ‘Extreme Leap of Faith’.

Entry forms are available at any of the 42 Specsavers stores nationwide, or online at specsavers.ie/unbreakable.

The experts at Specsavers believe they have found the perfect lens material, making children’s lenses as safe and durable as possible. The new SuperTough lenses will prevent any breakages that are a common part of childrens’ active lifestyles. The lenses are made from Trivex, a material that is more impact-resistant than standard plastic or glass and offers 100% UV protection. While these lenses are tougher, they are also lighter than standard plastic equivalents, so they are very comfortable for kids to wear.

Parents will also be glad to hear that SuperTough lenses come as standard in glasses for under-16s. At Specsavers, all glasses in the kids’ €55 range are free with an under-12s’ HSE optical voucher. Familiar brands in this price range include Shrek, Hello Kitty, Garfield, Mr Men and Action Man, as well as Specsavers’ own teen range.

Specsavers recommends an eye examination for all children before the age of eight and then once every two years.
