Jamie and Jools Oliver welcomed their fifth child earlier this year - a little boy they named River Rocket.

And while everyone was quick to send the couple messages of congratulations, some decided instead to pass criticism on one aspect of River's birth: the fact that Jamie's daughters, Poppy Honey, 14, and Daisy Boo, 13, were present.

Admitting that many criticised their decision to allow the girls in, Jamie told Good Housekeeping that he thought it was "strange" people were so against it.

"Most of the world has home births, and different countries have different habits. It's only controversial to really strange people," he said in the interview.

"It was an idea from mum and the kids, and we gave it lots of thought. As soon as the baby was out and safe, we got the nod - Poppy cut the umbilical cord!"

In fact, 14-year-old Poppy actually cut the chord, and Jamie said it was "extraordinary" having his daughters present at River's birth.

"It was the right age for them, the right scenario for us, and I witnessed their initial raw emotion as the little one was handed to them," he said.

"I know they respect their mum now even more than they already did. It was an amazing show of strength."
