Not many of us reach the end of the month with spare cash sitting in the bank, and it seems that even celebrities aren’t immune to the financial stresses that motherhood brings.
In an interview with the Sunday Times, TV presenter Sybil Mulcahy has said that she still accepts money from her dad to help pay bills.
The 41-year-old is mum to three children – nine-year-old Hugh, six-year-old Genevieve and Michael who is three - and revealed that she spends every penny she has.
“I spend every penny I have. Between childcare and everything else, I can’t afford to save. I tell my husband he’s my pension. I’ll leave the saving to him.”
Explaining why she still takes money from her dad, Michael Mulcahy, the mum-of-three said that it’s all down to something he taught her.
“He still gives me money. I’m the youngest of seven, so I’m spoilt. He’s always asking if I have enough for the shopping. I shouldn’t take the money at my age, but I do. He says, ‘Never refuse money.’ I take him at his word.”
After speaking about her own finances, Sybil shared some very good money advice: “Don’t run up bills on a credit card. Always pay it off in full. It’s the cheapest form of credit if you pay it back. I have never once paid penalty fees.”
“I wouldn’t give the banks the satisfaction of paying them the extra 15pc,” she added.
One of TV3’s most recognisable faces, Sybil left the station in order to spend more time with her children. She now works with the TV channel on a freelance basis.
