Having just announced she was preparing to welcome a third child into the life she shares with husband Ronan and their two children, Harrison and Eloise, RTÉ star Pamela Flood admits she's taken aback by some of the comments recently aimed at her.

The 44-year-old former Off the Rails presenter addressed the issue while speaking to RTÉ host, Brendan O'Connor, recently.

Having been asked to comment on the notion that pregnancy in later life is a selfish endeavour, outspoken Pamela laid bare her feelings on the matter, saying: "I don't think it's selfish."

Elaborating on her argument, the former Miss Ireland contestant said: "I think having a baby when you’re thirty, when all you’re concerned about is ‘get this baby out’ so I can go back on the lash, that’s irresponsible."

The proud mum credits healthy living for being able to conceive at 43-years-old and insists that that her lifestyle choices prove she's far from selfish, explaining: "So I think when you take care of yourself, having a baby at 44 is not a selfish thing and it’s not an irresponsible thing."

Refusing to acknowledge any negative feeling surrounding her latest pregnancy, Pamela goes on to say: "To all the naysayers out there, I say if you really have a problem with me having a baby at 44 take it up with mother nature."

The Tallaght-native, who wed husband Ronan in 2014, insists having a family is one of her greatest achievements, gushing: "I think having children is the most rewarding thing and fulfilling thing you can do and the toughest thing you can do. Having babies is really hard work but it’s wonderful."

Well said, Pamela!
