There is sad news today as multiple sources confirm that To Kill A Mockingbird author Harper Lee has passed away at the age of 89.
A statement from the family confirmed she had died in her sleep on Friday morning.
"This is a sad day for our family. America and the world knew Harper Lee as one of the last century’s most beloved authors. We knew her as Nelle Harper Lee, a loving member of our family, a devoted friend to the many good people who touched her life, and a generous soul in our community and our state. We will miss her dearly," said her oldest nephew and the family spokesman, Hank Conner.
Many of us read her iconic novel back in school, going on to treasure the characters of Scout and Jem and their father Atticus. A sequel to the book, Go Set a Watchman was only published a few months ago, although it received mixed reviews.
Winner of a Pulitzer Prize in 1962, Harper lee was loved by many so it is not surprising the news of her passing has affected a lot of people.
