From Weeds creator Jenji Kohan comes Orange is the New Black, a women's prison drama with comedy that takes no prisoners.

Based on the acclaimed memoir of the same name by Piper Kerman, the series is about engaged Brooklynite Piper Chapman, whose decade-old relationship with drug-runner Alex results in her arrest and year-long detention in a federal penitentiary.

To pay her debt to society, Piper must trade her comfortable New York life with fiancé Larry, for an orange prison jumpsuit and a baffling prison culture where she is forced to question everything she believes about herself and the world at large. As she struggles to adjust to her new reality, she finds unexpected laughter, tears, conflict and camaraderie amidst an eccentric and outspoken group of inmates.

Orange is the New Black consists of 13 one-hour episodes and is available to watch on Netflix instantly. New to Netflix?  No problem - sign up here.

Watch with MummyPages Club – update!

Last month we started our Watch with MummyPages Club – and we had a fantastic discussion about Gossip Girl. This month we watched the all new, exclusive to Netflix - Orange is the new Black.

There has been so much excitement this month about Orange is the new Black with our MummyPages mums, with everyone wondering when Series 2 will arrive.

Rita says: “Great show. And super value from Netflix ... have signed up for the year, it's the cheapest out there, and I'm watching shows (including OITNB) totally for free for the first month. Nice one. Hope the next series is on soon.”

Funnylady says: “Love Piper's brother ... he just doesn't care about anything. Not sure how he deals with having Larry around all the time tho. Great show, great to have something other to watch than the flippin soaps.”

Nightowl says: “Brill show! Really didn't think I'd like it, but it's totally addictive.”

Shanesmom says: “Yeah I agree with other posters ... it's good ... but can somebody pleeeeease tell me what the story is with the chicken? Was there really a chicken?”

If you haven’t watched Orange is the new Black yet, sign up to Netflix now where you can catch up on Series 1 click here to sign up and get your first month free.

Absolutley loving it! Only at the beginning and I'm literally hooked. Totally new and fresh drama...great to have something fantastic to watch whenever I'm free to watch it, instead of channel surfing for the whole night and ending up watching nothing at all coz there's nowt on.
Also who is her lover? The dark haired girl. And what's she from? I recognise her from something but can't place her.

Have heard sooo much about this being fantastic. And I guess I shouldn't have listened to all the hype because I'm a bit disappointed. It's not bad, don't get me wrong, but it's not as good as the hype. Although to be fair, I've only started watching (have watched 2 episodes, so I'll give it a chance and will keep going. But I'm not totally dying to see the next episode.

Also ... it's an eeny bit gross. I don't consider myself a prude but the first episode had some bits in it that made me really cringe. I don't suppose it was helped by the fact that I was watching it with the MIL.
Anyhoo ... will watch more and let you know.

This is actually quite good ... a bit slow to start, but well worth sticking to it. And nice to see mostly no-namers in it (except for Jason Biggs of course - who incidentally will never, in my eyes, get away from American Pie, but how and ever). I haven't quite finished Series 1, but am nearly there and still enjoying it.

This is my favourite show on Netfflix. I haven't even watched Breaking Bad yet (that's next on my list). Really enjoyed watching it, although I cannot stand her husband Larry - I just can't warm to him at all. He'll always be the American Pie guy who I disliked in those films too. Also, does anybody else find the intro sooooooooooo long? Unnecessary no? I can fast foward tho so not a big deal. Still a great show.

I love this show, it's multifaceted characters and storylines are both terrifying and absolutely hilarious!
Kate Mulgrew is brilliant as Red and Piper's 'little' faux pas with her cracked me up. The backgroud story seems a bit far fetched, though some further watching may shed some light on events.
Taryn Manning's (Pennsatuckey) character is completely nuts, she's got dem craZZYY eyes...lol...she's going to be one to watch!!

Really enjoyed watching this. We watched it over a week roughly,
Towards the end I was starting to get fed up of Piper's self pity but did not expect the ending.
As some of you are saying it's not exactly for viewing with your parents or inlaws!!!.
I like the way that they show the inmates out of the prison and how they became what they are
I'm really lookign forward to the next season.

Great show ... love the way you get the back story to each person in every episode. I kinda wondered how they would make this series work long term, but they've totally done it, and I'm always looking forward to see the next series. AND I FLIPPIN LOVE that you can watch all the episodes one after the other. Netflix rocks.

Nice one shelliebob ... I totally couldn't place her either. She looks and acts so differently - I mean, I know that's the idea, acting 'n all. ha ha.

This show is nuts! Wonderfully, brillantly, cleverly off it's rocker. Red's backstory is getting really interesting, I get the feeling she killed someone a la Cary Grant'a aunts...out with the arsenic :D
There's something really nice about Morello, I can't figure why she's inside though.

Love watching this one. Great show. Something new in every episode.

I wonder how accurate a reflection it is of a minimum security prison ... sometimes it seems very relaxed and other times the things taht go on would scare the living daylights out of you. And the prison guards at all levels are just awful. I'm not sure why I was so shocked at their behaviour but I was.
Very entertaining show.

Season 1 was just brilliant, I cannot wait for Season 2

Fantastic end to the season. I didn't see that coming at all, talk about going to extremes. I love this show :D

Has anyone else finished it? I don't want to spoil it on anyone
