Hearts everywhere melted last night when Brooklynn Prince, the seven-year-old star of The Florida Project, won Best Young Performer at the Critics' Choice Awards.

The accomplished young actress cried during her acceptance speech, making all of us reach for the tissues, too.

"Wow, this is such a big honour," she said through her tears, inspiring 'awwwws' from the audience.

"But all the nominees are great. You guys are awesome. We should go and get ice cream after this," she continued graciously.

How sweet of her! Brooklynn certainly was in good company.

Her fellow nominees include Mckenna Grace for her role in Gifted, Dafne Keen for her part in Logan, Millicent Simmonds for Wonderstruck, and Jacob Tremblay (who previously won the same award for Room) for Wonder.

The seven-year-old set herself apart from the pack though as Moonee, a precocious little girl who lives with her impoverished mother Halley in a motel. The Florida Project is a bubblegum-coloured movie about childhood with much darker undertones.

The rest of Brooklynn's speech was just as adorable as its beginning: "All my voters, you guys are awesome, thank you so much. Um, God, I would like to thank you for this wonderful opportunity. And I would like to thank Sean for just giving me this wonderful opportunity to be his Moonee.

"And I would like to thank the cast and crew for giving me the wonderful support, my family, you guys are awesome, and my team."

Finally, Brooklynn sent a powerful message about helping the less fortunate: "And I would like to dedicate the award to all the Halleys and Moonees out there. Guys, this is a real problem. You need to go out there and help. Thank you so much."

We are BAWLING. What a compassionate little girl. We are sure we'll be seeing more great things from her.
