Shedding unwanted pounds may be at the front of your mind right now, but too often, the effort of getting geared up for the gym is beyond us.
Luckily, scientists have discovered a more accessible way for you to lose those extra kilo - one that involves nothing more than a bed and your partner.
Canadian researchers found that an hour of love-making burns the same amount of calories as a half an hour of jogging, with men losing 120 calories and women losing 90 after only 30 minutes of sex.
The study asked 20 heterosexual couples, aged 18 to 35, to have sex once a week for four weeks and then to jog on a treadmill for 30 minutes.
The results showed that the men burned 4.2 calories a minute during sex, in comparison to  9.2 lost on the treadmill. Slightly less than their male counterparts, the ladies burned 3.1 calories a minute during sex compared to 7.1 running.
Published by the Public Library of Science, the study concluded: “These results suggest that sexual activity may potentially be considered, at times, as a significant exercise.”
