A young mum is campaigning to lower the smear test age in the UK after being diagnosed with terminal cancer at 26.

Aimee Willett, who is a mum to two young boys, has said that being tested for the first time at the age of 25 is opening young women up to health risks that could otherwise be caught and treated sooner.

Aimee was informed there were cancerous cells in her cervix after her very first smear test, with doctors discovering an inoperable tumour six months later.

Doctors later diagnosed Aimee’s cancer as terminal after the tumour spread to other parts of her body, and said that it is unlikely that she will live to 2016.

As she faces into possibly her last Christmas with her sons, eight-year-old Charlie and three-year-old Kaleb, and her fiancé Michael, Aimee has called for the smear testing age to be lowered in a bid to save lives.

In a recent interview, Aimee said: “I am bitter about it and I would like to see the age lowered…I think 25 is too old – especially if a girl has had a child at a young age.”

“The biggest thing for me now is for people to be more aware,” she added.

Aimee has now made a bucket list of things she wants to do before she passes away. At the top of her list are marrying her partner and giving her sons the best Christmas ever.
