A spare room can often be used as a dumping ground for household items that you simply can’t find a home for. Instead of letting it go to ruin, why not put it to good use with any of these ten ideas.

Study
Stop the kids doing their homework on the kitchen table by turning it into a study.

Extra sitting room
When your kids have friends over, having a room that they can go to to watch telly or listen to music will keep them out from under your feet.

Retreat
Keep the room for yourself and use it as a sort of retreat for when things get too much. Arrange scented candles along the walls and fill it with pillows and blankets to create a truly relaxing atmosphere.

Gym
If you have the equipment, why not put it all in one room and have your very own mini gym. If it’s althogether you are more likely to use it.

Dressing room
Make your bedroom clutter-free by putting your clothes, cosmetics and shoes in one room. This way you will know where everything is when you are rushing out in the morning.

Rent it out
Make yourself some extra cash by renting out the room. You are sure to find a student who is looking for a place to stay.

Wine room
If you are a wine connoisseur, a room designated for your wine would be ideal.

Playroom
Keep it as a playroom for your kids so that if they do make a mess in there you can simply close the door – no one will ever know.

Music room
If you have a budding musician in your home why not turn the spare room into their practice room.

Spare bedroom
Or why not do what was intended of the room, and turn it into a lovely guest bedroom.
