Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Turkey this morning, following the horrific news that at least 36 people have been killed in a terrorist bombing in Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport.

A further 147 people have been reported injured in the attack.

According to various media outlets, three terrorists armed with guns opened fire in the airport’s departures area before each detonating a bomb.

Turkey’s Prime Minister, Binali Yildirim, has said that ISIS is responsible for the atrocity.

There are scenes of devastation at the airport – Europe’s third largest – this morning, with all scheduled outgoing flights cancelled; other flights due into Ataturk have been diverted.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan condemned the attack in a statement, saying: “The attack, which took place during the holy month of Ramadan, shows that terrorism strikes with no regard for faith and values. The bombs that exploded in Istanbul today could have gone off at any airport in any city around the world.”

We are thinking of all those affected by this tragedy.
